Ave Maria
The quilts mirror the generational relationship between my grandmother, mother, and myself. All being the first born child in the family. The quilts embrace each others as one acts as the mother having dimensions of a queen size quilt and the other the child having the dimensions of a crib quilt. The larger hosting images of the Latin women’s three most important cultural events, the birth(myself), quinces(my mother), and marriage (my grandmother). In the middle, having a collage of the three of us homogenizing us and blurring the generational connections. The smaller quilt having Ave Maria because of the connection the three of us share with the Virgin Mary in some form and the protector of women as well as birth.
